Gena,

My personal preference is for Suttons that are 3" to 3 1/2".
I believe I use #23 and #22 the most.
As for colors I use the hammered silver with broze underside, and all slver.
But that's entirely a personal preference.

GV, can't go wrong with a selection of #'s 72, 71 and 33. Get a few in Hammered Silver, Silver and Brass and all Brass. When you get them, cut off the hooks and replace them with # 4 Gama Trebles. There are a couple of real experienced Sutton pullers on the forum who's advice I'd take seriously as well. I'm thinking about you Chris D!! The sizes/colors mentioned have worked well for Butch and I.

Good luck!

Mike

GV

I have had success with with Sutton 44 Silver and hammered silver in early spring when you don't have to get to deep troll nice and slow with these occasionally coming almost to a stop then row fast to get em up .  I believe you have to match the hatch .  Around this time of year Sutton Frisbys Silverare the way to go they are a little heavier get you down fast , and deep unlike the light paper thin ones mentioned you have to row consistently keeping the pace up in the later mornings when you see them deep . First thing in the A.M. I have been experimenting with the Sutton 88 Silver  almost same size as frisby but paper thin . Good Luck You are probably gonna get a ton  of suggestions  of sizes and colors BOTTOM LINE THEY ALL WORK.

Like reservoirdog said the #44 in the early spring is deadly but you will have a hard time finding that #. The 31 is similar in profile just a little longer. When the sun is down I like to think big so I go with either #38, #72 or #06, I usually add a strip of glow tape for those night trollers, just make sure you charge them with either a flashlight or a camera flash every 15 minutes. I have had some good success with the #23, and I prefer the hammered finish in either silver or silver/brass.

Everybody ,  thank you for your very valuable advices!
I tried to find #44....No luck and nowhere to find .Spoke to guy from Sutton , he was  sound very sad .....He said "We are in very bad situation...only limited quantities of select lure we carry now , we don't do any plating...and we don't have #44 left..."
Guy was sound simple depressed :-[Hope their company will make it.
I already made a list those recommended lures .I'll call him tomorrow to place order.
I'll post tomorrow to report what they have in stock.

GV, I am not sure, but I think Cross River Sportsman has suttons.    At least they used to.    Give them (Neil) a call.

Gena, was up in Lake George this weekend and stopped by at www.Fish307.com. They have been a big vendor for Suttons for a long time. Found out today that very shortly, next week perhaps, they will be receiving inventory of flutter spoons from a new manufacturer. According to Jeff Goldberg who owns Fish307 the quality of these new spoons will rival or surpass that of Suttons. In eiher case, maybe you'd be interested in contacting Jeff for more info. Don't have the number handy but it's on the web site. He's a great guy and really knows his stuff when it comes to all things trolling for trout and salmon!

Good luck-Mike

Mike, I will be in Schroon Lake all next week and was planning on visiting Fish307 one of those days. I will make sure to inquire about these new flutter spoons and hopefully they may have some in stock.

Chris, if you've never been to 307 you'll be a kid in a candy store! Every time I go up to my camp in the Adks I can't help myself but stop there and buy something! Tell Jeff I said Hi! Enjoy your vacation and good luck on Schroon. It's a nice lake and there are some decent fish to be caught but you do have to work a bit for them. Before we "discovered" Otsego, Butch and I regularly ice fished Schroon. Nothing can top Otsego however! Absolutely incredible laker factory!!
