Browns and lakers in Kensico Reservoir...
« on: September 23, 2006, 11:27:23 pm »
I'll be needing a lot of tips soon because I want to target trout in Kensico Reservoir. I was admiring the many pictures of fishermen and their large trout catches at Wade's Bait & Tackle in Valhalla today. I'll post anything I can when I start developing a plan.
Bottomline is that there are a lot of lake trout and brown trout in Kensico Reservoir just waiting to be caught. The tactics are different then the bass I'm usually trying for. If anyone has some tips or thoughts, please let me know.

Best to All,
Vinny

Hey Vinny  We catch lakers on sawbellies down deeeep and sometimes we troll flutter spoons on lead core line.    Probably the most important tip is put your time in, especially for the brownies and im sure one day your picture will be up on the wall in wades too.

Good Luck

Thanks for the optimism. I do have a nice 4.5 lb smallie photo on Wade's wall but would like to add a nice trout shot.

I heard about leadcore from another trout guy on Kensico. Do you have any recommendations on what rod and reel you would use in a trout setup using leadcore?

Best Always,
Vinny

We use Penn Levelwinds  think the model is 209 or 309    and 7 to 7 1/2  foot medium heavy to heavy rod

Talking about Lakers in Kensico, the rule has always been 21 inches as far as I can remember.
However the DEC was proposing changes to make that 18 inches due to an oversupply of Lakers
putting pressure on the Brownies. Anyway, the proposed changed was suppose to go into effect
October 1 2006. Does anyone know if this change has happened?
Thanks

OK...I look like an idiot. Never mind my last question.
Just found my 2006-2007 DEC booklet and the change has been made.

Ken,
Welcome and I appreciate the post. It's always good to get a reminder of the rules and where to look for them.
I hope to target trout in the spring on Kensico. I've been talking with some of the regulars about getting a rod & reel to dedicate to it. Maybe with some leadcore.

Happy Holidays,
Vinny
