Scarsdale/Hartsdale Area?
« on: May 17, 2011, 10:17:28 am »
Nothing to do with fishing really.  I am looking to cut down my commute, and want to buy a place that is walking distance to the train each day since I work in NYC.  I have narrowed my neighborhoods down to the co-ops on Garth Road right near the Scarsdale train station and the co-ops on E. Hartsdale Road near the Hartsdale train station.  I am leaning towards Garth Road. Anybody familiar with this area? Thanks in advance for any input.

Fishing-wise, I plan to call today to get my name on the waiting list for Kensico, then when I get called ill either buy a new boat or take mine from CFalls to Kenisco.

Can't give you detailed useful advice but I know both areas to the extent that I've been driving by them
for the last 17 years. Actually we've got a few members on this board who are Harstdale residents
and maybe they can help. You'll definitely want a boat on Kensico. Hartsdale is a bit closer in distance
but you can take the Bronx River Pky from Scarsdale straight up to the Kensico dam so timewise it's probably the same. You'll probably want to keep your CF boat because it's best to have the option for when the action is hotter up there or just for a change of pace.

Yea, I see your point about 2 boats. I guess I'll see how I feel when the time comes. I dont fish much anyway, so I could probably get away with 1 boat. and when Im not fishing Kensico, hit the lakes/ponds from shore up in Mahopac.

I just called DEP, they may start calling people end of this week or sometime next week.  So far, approx. 90 people are on the list, from what I understand people without boats registered on Kensico will be called first.

Bizarro, I would recommend getting on the list before it gets any longer.  Call Mike at 914-232-1309, it's busy so keep calling till you get him.

Also, you may want to consider buying a good sturdy semi-v for Kensico, I've been in the boat when waves almost came crashing over the back.

Nah, just messin with you Biz, it's 90.  Call and get on that list before it gets longer, I dont know for sure, but I dont think they do this that often.  Make sure you tell them you dont have a boat on Kensico.  Good luck!

I hope we will be able to find out whether this "waiting list system" is now going to be
permanent. Or do we know this already? ???
I had thought DEP did this because we had an exceptionally bad winter and they
couldn't pull boats in December as usual.

I work in and am very familiar with Scarsdale, Biz. Garth Road from Popham Road south to the rear entrance to the Freightway Parking Garage, near S+J Pizza, is within the Village of Scarsdale. Garth Road south of that point is the Town of Eastchester. You won't feel it as bad with a co-op versus a home, but your taxes may differ.

Overall, either side of the line is a nice area with plenty of things within walking distance. Vehicular traffic during AM and PM rush hour near the garage and train station can be moderate; Hartsdale Ave gets worse traffic in my opinion. General street parking can be difficult...meters and/or permit parking galore.

Hartsdale Ave is closer to Central Ave but Scarsdale is one less train stop. Either one's a good choice.

I tried calling the DEP on my quick lunch break, it was busy. I will try when Im florida and have all day to keep trying lol.

Lived on Garth for 12 years no complaints they fixed the parking with the back lot easy walk to the train or if someone is lazy or hurt their arm from pulling in the big one a bus can take you to and from the station during main commuting hours You are correct Scarsdale PO but Eastchester schools Good luck

hey Biz

I live in hartsdale, I live off of West hartsdale , the other side of Central ave, the apts off  east hartsdale are nice with a very short walk to the train , with ample parking . if you are planning to have a car it is very important to take parking into consideration . To Me Garth road is very congested than again so is any town at rush hour . Make sure you buy a 2 bedroom it is definitely more desireable and will allow you to stay longer if you  need to if you suddenly have a child, also to keep your trophy's and your gear at of the way . Good luck now is a great time to buy , take your time and choose wisely
