50-60lb Carp caught in Lake Carmel
« on: May 11, 2011, 08:46:02 pm »
In the "Mahopac News" newspaper, there was a picture of a kid who caught a 50-60lb carp out of Lake Carmel.  The thing looks huge.  I can't find the pic on Mahopac News website yet. But hopefully they put it up soon.

he was a teenager, not that young or small....I compared it to the pic of the 46lb carp caught by kids in Jack's book this year. It definitely looks fatter and maybe even longer than that one. So I think the paper's estimate of 50-60lbs looks legit.

Finally a pic.

He caught a fisht THIS BIG!!!!
Brad Addonizio caught and released this 50-60 pound carp in Lake Carmel a few weeks ago. Thankfully fellow resident and friend Chris Hansen was there to help him tackle this huge fish out of the water.

Oh wow..that's not a regular Common Carp. That's a Grass Carp, also known as White Amur.
And a pretty big specimen at that.

Possibly as young as between 7 and 8 years old.
Grass Carp can grow at a rate of 8.25 lbs per year.
But they are known to live over 35 years.

Wow so with that in mind there must be Carp over 100 lbs each in these reserviors..8.25 pounds a year sounds high ??They must be feeding on everything that dies on the bottom??
