Hey I new to the fresh water game,
« on: November 27, 2007, 07:32:02 pm »
Hey,

Its great to see this westchester site!!  I come from a background of fishing in Cape Cod bay, out of Truro.  I did some fresh water fishing yrs ago, but.. now i live in Croton on hdsn . So,  I would like to got to the New Croton res. Off 129( right past the dam, by the bridge) .  Is this a good place to go? I bought a ugly stick and some Rapala lures.
I did go out last wk to a place in Putnam and caught a big mouth bass.  Boy did it hoook me into fishing.  I ofcourse released  it.
So any suggestions on Croton fishing???

Welcome,
Croton has a ton of fish, I'm not sure about spots for shore fishing but the boating season ends this week and starts up again on April 1st. With the cold weather the fish are starting to go deeper and that may make it harder to fish from shore by the bridges and roadways.

I was on the middle part of Croton last Friday and got skunked. Luckily my buddy caught a nice 4lber towards the end of our cold and windy day.

I'm not one to like the cold weather but if you have the bug you can ice fish on some of the reservoirs. Not Croton but maybe Amawalk would be the closest. Check the DEP website for the regulations.

Best Always,
Vinny

Welcome!  I am fairly new to fresh water as well and last season was my first.  I used to be more of a saltwater guy but my buddies got me addicted.  We have a boat on New Croton in Somers and caught some nice fish last season.  They are out there but it is all about technique - a lot different than saltwater, I am learning

And Welcome to "Hairless Trout"

Croton is very popular with the bass guys. I have a boat on West Croton just south of the Taconic So. bridge and a boat on Middle Croton that I think I remember where it is.  ;D

Once it gets near April 1st we'll have a lot to post.

Best Always,
Vinny
