Plastic/Rubber frogs...
« on: September 02, 2006, 04:07:00 pm »
Went to Maine recently and got a couple of chances to fish the lakes there. Twice on different model frog baits I had fish jump, grab the frog, jump again, and spit it out. I'd say the first fish was about a 4lb largemouth and the second about a 2 lb largemouth.
Talking with my buddy Arthur he mentioned that you have to wait 1-2 seconds (after the initial hit) before trying to set the hook and even then, it's luck if the hooks are in the right position to snag the fish.
I enjoyed just watching the fish jump and the whole exeperience. I would have liked to bring them into the boat but I was satisfied I used the right bait (in the weedy 8 feet of water) and will look forward to the next time.

Vinny

Frog fishing is always fun, but the success rate is very low...ever try the Sizmic toad? I like them the best and had good success(for froggin) on them with the Hookerz hooks.

Bill,
I've heard of the Sizmic Toads. My question is do you have the hook sitting below the toad or above the toad when you're rigging it?

Love those Hookerz hooks.

Thanks,
Vinny

I place it under the pocket in the toad facing up, I feel the bass clamps down on it and the hook gets him in upper jaw, think I said that right ???

Yea that just what I try to do.. But it is hard when you see a bass just destroy that frog coming across the top of the water.

I bought a frog that looks kinda like the one in the picture. The problem is that everytime i cast it, it lands upside down and doesn't "hop" when i reel it in. Any tips?

thanks

I've always wondered about how they land. The weight should help it land bottom down. I make sure to have my know tied toward the top of the  eyelet and if the frog doesn't land right, I give it a quick jerk to get it right.
I'm not sure of an easy answer but they always seem to land fine for me.
