Has anyone connected with any LM or SM Bass this year yet or is it still to cold? I believe we are allowed to Catch and Release them?

I caught a SMB on March 12th jigging the bottom at 70 FOW.
Totaly unintentional and unexpected.

My First 2011 SM Bass on a jointed Rapala Crankbait it was small but I didnt connect with anything else from shore I was out there six hours

Reminds me when Sam and I fished the rocky area just south of the Rye Bridge off of 22.



My wife didn't like seeing Sam in such a precarious spot. LOL

 nice bass, I was out 5 hours and got skunked. I did however hook up this...

I had no idea that crayfish were out already.
I've never seen them before May so I figured
they's still be dormant. Guess not!

I tried but I didnt know how to rig it lol, my little brother put it on a worm hook and put a bobber 2 feet above.

Since using livebait for bass is not legal until the third Sat in June,
and you might have a tough time convincing a DEC officer that you were
trout fishing with a crayfish, it's probably best. Artificals only and C&R for Bass
till then.
