Does anyone use live crayfish for bait while fishing NYC Res System?
Where can you buy them?
Will trout go after crayfish lures?
Lets go Yankee's

I would use them if I found a place that sold them. In Lake George the best live bait for Bass is crayfish.  I have seen huge crayfish in reservoirs and Kirk Lake (Mahopac).  I tried the crayfish lures but never got anything. I would love to try live crayfish, but I dont know anyone locally who sells them.

I guess this doesn't help but back in the 1980s Bobs Bait & Tackle in
Katonah as well as Cross River Sportman in C.R. sold crayfish as bait.
I remember alot of the biggest Smallies 5-6 lbs being brought in were
all caught on live crayfish. Large trout will take crayfish but it is more
commonly used for Bass. I guess today you'd have to catch your own.
I'm not aware of any rules or regulations prohibiting their use as bait in the
reservoirs.

These have worked for me on some occasions.

Yum2.5in Crawbug on a weedless jighead with 1/4 of a cotton ball stuffed inside and injected with some eagle claw crawfish scent.

errrr.. I do not think there is any regulation prohibiting catching crawfish in the ressies. My son and I caught a bunch last summer just by flipping the rocks along the shoreline, then caught a bunch of perch using the tails.
We catch our own sawbellies too when the chance presents itself, alot le$$ than buying them.!
Though we mihgt have precious little, it's still precious....

Last year I saw one large crayfish in the Kensico Res between rocks by 9 & 10. Do you think that there are more? Or do you think that people might have put some in there? Im not sure if they reproduce and are part of the yearly live stock in Kensico but if anyone could shed some light on this it would be helpful? As you know ,they say if you know what the fish are eating you will catch more fish (in theory of course)

From my own observations, they have been in every reservoir I have fished, and reproduce naturally.

Crayfish plastics are one of my favorites to throw out there for bass in the reservoirs. I have a few different types I use. I just got in a bunch of Venom Tube Craws that I'll t-rig or put on a jighead.

Best to All,

I've caught and eaten a lot of them until I found out that the body of water tht I was catching them in had high levels of runoff from the fertilizers used on homes along the shore. :o

There is polution everywhere,... If I caught a bunch I would definetly eat them.... Just like lobsters they eat the garbage of the ecosystem.

I would have to think that crayfish in the reservoir systems would
be cleaner/safer to eat than those in waters surrounded by homes
and such.
