14 lb (?) brown while jigging for bass
« on: March 17, 2011, 06:52:18 am »
I have a fishing buddy who is not yet on these forums. He's a great bass fisherman (almost went on the pro circuit). Yesterday he sent me a picture, not a good one, of what is an allegedly 14 pound brown taken while throwing a white woolly jig in shallow water for bass in Kensico a few days ago. My friend has even occasionally gotten browns while throwing jerk baits for bass. When he's headed in, he'll always drag a crankbait real fast across the lake and more than once he's connected with a big brown. I even took one years ago on a Hula Popper at night. My friend did text me a picture of the fish. It's not a great shot; his arm eclipses the fish. I forget how to upload them here. If anyone's dying to see it, refresh me.

canoejon;

I'm not surprised at all. Bass guys are always unintentionally
connecting with Browns in the early spring.
Click on reply to and underneath there is "ADDITONAL OPTIONS".
Use the BROWSE function to load the photo.

14lb Brown is a monster!

Trout can be caught on any lure, they are opportunistic feeders and a brown that size has a big appetite.  I have caught many browns,bows,lakers on lures,  that's what i fish with the most. The brown in my pic was caught on a 1/4 oz jig with a berkly gulp minnow.  Any minnow type bait will work , you can skip them on top, jig them deep or swim them . You don't even need a boat ,early spring you can find trout close to shore that's the best time to target them.   look for spots where the streams drain into the reservoir or spots were there is a deep drop off near the shoreline.   rt 22  by rye lake bridge has very deep water close to shore cast out 1/2 oz jig with a white colored minnow bait and you can catch all the lakers you want.

I find it interesting that no one has commented on where the guy is on Kensico. Not many people know to look for big browns this time of year where this guy was.
