Kensico Wish List?
« on: March 07, 2011, 04:42:34 pm »
Gentlemen...and Ladies.....if you had your choice, what new species would you like to see stocked in Kensico? Walleye? Landlocked Salmon? Or none at all--and just leave Kensico as it is with LMB, SMB, Lakers and Browns? (Am I missing any? OK, catfish probably....the odd carp or two perhaps....)

On the coldwater side, I'd love to see Landlocked Salmon put in. But the
DEC already told me that with the Laker program so successful, it's not
going to happen. Ranbows maybe if whatever caused that program to fail
previously (ended 1995) can be overcome.
On the warmwater side, either Walleyes or Hybrid Striped Bass. Both can reach
sizes that would be interesting. I'm almost tempted to say White Perch but they're in practically every body of water around here already.

Definitely Walleye (sooo good eating), but they are aggressive predators, could harm the ecosystem if not carefully regulated.
The tug is the drug.

I'd like to see them stock 10,000 browns in both basins. In my opinion its way under stocked for its size with zero reproduction. The other ressies get almost a many and there half the size of kensico.

Jimmy,
I think we would be better off if they only stocked browns that were big enough not to be Laker snacks! :(

Good posts gents, all good. Personally I'd love to see some walleye because they are such a great fish, but they are aggressive. there again, it's not as if Lakers are shrinking violets--the Lakers ate the Rainbows. Stocking larger, Laker-proof Browns would be a treat. Wish DEC would consider it, or consider landlocked Salmon (as there are in Maine, living in the same habitat as Brookies.) 23 days to go.....

23 Days till what? Trout is open year-round on all the NYC reservoirs in Westchester & Putnam, including Kensico.

I suppose. The way things are at the moment we're lucky to get anything. The browns on Rondout seem to do fine.
