Lost key on boat lock
« on: December 29, 2010, 07:23:11 pm »
Hey just checking for possible ideas on how to cut one of these big master locks...My cousin lost the key to a boat, we tryed using a De-walt saw that did'nt even put a scratch on the lock..Does anybody know where we can rent a generator in the area of Katonah, Somers etc..Or does anybody have a idea of how to cut thru one one these locks..Or is it easier to cut thru the cable??? I'm guessing that my cousin is not the first or the last that needs to get a new key or the above mentioned...Thanks

It's a little scary to give such an advise publically, as if inviting boat thieves to follow an easy route.  Having been a victim of a boat theft recently, I think locks and chains only protect us from honest people and a thief knows his ways better.  Therefore I'd rather avoid this discussion altogether.  Biggamee, I'll PM you with my 10 cents.

your cousin doesn't have any extra keys? First thing I did when I bought my boat, was make like 5 copies of the key...keep 1 in my tackle box, 1 in my car, a few at my house, etc. But anyway, what about the DEP for advise?  I think they have to cut through chains/cables/locks all the time when they remove boats with expired tags.
